It’s a day of travel today, we flew from Auckland to Singapore. In true Andy style, he started the day with Champagne at the airport for what is now the homeward leg of our trip.
As we were heading to the departure gate a loud alarm started going off in the airport, but nobody seemed too bothered and kept going about their business. As we boarded the plane, the alarm was still going off and an announcement was made that some people may be delayed getting to the gate due to the airport alarm. The plane departed on time and it wasn’t until we were in the air that we saw there were reports of an earthquake in NZ - this is what had set of the alarms in the airport we think. The captain also made an announcement to say the flight would be slightly longer than planned as a volcano had erupted in Sumatra and we would be taking a different flight path to circumnavigate that! The final bit of news mid flight was that Peru has declared a state of civil unrest and the British Government has issued a statement advising against travel in Peru - lucky we went a few weeks ago! We didn’t see any of the unrest when we were there, everyone we met was very lovely and couldn’t be more helpful or kind.
The flight was split into two parts: NZ to Sydney which was about 3 hours, then Sydney to Singapore which was 8hours. The flight was great - very comfy seats and some fine dining helped the time pass quickly!
We have been in so many different time zones, it’s all a bit befuddling! We arrived in Singapore around 10pm and whizzed through the rather beautiful airport which was like a ghost town with no queues in sight, finally getting to our hotel at 11pm, ready for a quick unpack and bed.
Ps I forgot, there was a man in handcuffs getting escorted by three people who got rushed through the scanning machines in airport security in front of us today!
