We opened the cabin curtains to look out onto land for the first time in 6 days, and not just any land…..we’re in Mauritius!
There was a hive of activity at the side of the ship this morning as a big refuelling tanker came and tied up beside us. This was quite an operation and took at least an hour for it to be slowly manoeuvred closer and closer by various tugs before finding its refuelling position beside us.
We hopped ashore and had a wonder through the streets of Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. We visited the Natural history museum and saw some Dodo skeletons, numerous stuffed fish and a very friendly looking giant tortoise. Outside the museum were the most amazing trees - I’m not sure what kind of trees they were but they had the most amazing trunks and vines that seemed to hang from their great height.
The food vegetable market was fascinating, with all sorts of enormous fruit and veg we hadn’t seen before, and others that we had but they had been super sized e.g. avocados were the size of grapefruits!
We had a quick bite of lunch ashore before heading back to the ship - Andy had a snooze and I ventured down to the gym to do a spot of cycling.
Entertainment this evening was the casino! Andy had a whirl at Roulette and I watched over the shoulders of some people as they played Black Jack.
