Today we docked in Durban, South Africa. Everyone on the ship had to go ashore and go through immigration which was a bit of a palaver - 2,500 guests and 1,200 crew all getting passports checked and stamped. We weren’t going on any trips so waited til lunchtime to think about heading off the ship and into the cruise terminal to get processed.
Once through passport control we had a stroll along the seafront, known as “The Golden Mile”. There were people doing sand art - sculpting things in the sand e.g. life size sofas, crocodiles and people sunbathing (weird, I know!). It was a bit of a ghost town, we saw very few people and the few that we did see, whilst walking on the promenade, were shooed away by police patrols on bicycles.
This afternoon, once back onboard, Andy was amused for hours watching the goings on on the dock side. There were forklifts, diggers and many South African men trying to take large lengths of pipe out the back of a lorry and not being very successful!
This evening the ship set sail again, we now have 2 days at sea before arriving in Capetown on Thursday. That means only 2 more days of craft classes left 😔 and even worse…..we’ll have to think about packing soon- yikes!
