Day 25 Hamilton

We said goodbye to Russell this morning, hopped on the little car ferry and set off on the 5 hour drive south to Hamilton, which we’re using as a stopover to break up the journey to Lake Taupo.

There’s not really much to report from Hamilton.  It’s not a very exciting city.  We ventured to the Botanic Gardens but even they weren’t anything to write home about. I think it’s safe to say, if you were ever going to visit Hamilton, I’d give it a wide berth!  It’s a very industrial town.

On the upside, the little apartment we’re in for one night has a washing machine and tumble dryer (in the bathroom!).  Laundry facilities become very important when you travel for longer than a week and have a limited amount of clothes with you! We made full use of the washing machine and tumble dryer - which seems to have no vent and has turned the bathroom into a sauna/steam room, but, we have some clean clothes - hooray!

It’s Dougal’s 21st birthday today so I’ve spent a lot of today reminiscing and looking at old photos (mobile phones are great for that!).  The most precious thing about today was getting a video from lovely Chloe, of Dougal opening his presents, and then being able to video call Dougal & Chloe.  Family is so precious.πŸ’•

More carvings - they always stick their tongue out!
